Making your own gyros is actually quite simple and you achieve a surprisingly equivalent result. A result that works well here at home in the more northern latitudes of Sweden when you can´t enjoy the original in Greece.

To get that characteristic taste of the meat or chicken, gyro spice is needed, which is a mixture of several different spices such as cumin, garlic powder, red pepper (paprika) powder, oregano, thyme and cinnamon.
This is the recipe for the right proportions:
2 tablespoons cumin (1 ounce)
2 tablespoons garlic powder (1 ounce)
2 tablespoons red pepper (paprika) powder (1 ounce)
1 tablespoon thyme (0,5 ounce)
2 teaspoons oregano
1 pince cinnamon (1 ml)
Measure the spices and mix well.
